Advice for Aspiring Writers

Written in response to all those links you see on Twitter and Facebook about writing.

Advice for Aspiring Writers

Q: What advice would give to aspiring writers?

A: Ignore the advice of other writers about writing. Sail your own course. Follow the advice of Hemingway or Margaret Atwood etc. on writing and all you will become is a clone of Hemingway or Atwood and a bad one at that. The same applies if you want to be a fantasy or thriller writer or whatever. Don’t restrict yourself to reading from that one genre. Read everything you can. The broader your base, the higher you will climb.

Q: So following your advice, should we also ignore your advice?

A: Yes.

Q: Rob Maher, thank you very much.

Get it done.
